Portraits are very challenging....a millimeter off and it changes everything. But usually they are fairly static and the shapes conform to lines and angles that we are comfortable with. This sketch is based on a photo of a Facebook friend and I just had to try to draw it since the expression was so different than what is usually encountered. One must challenge oneself otherwise we tend to get lazy about 'seeing' shapes and relationships. The sketch is just about there and I hope to do my friend justice in a painting!
