"Memory Lane"

I recently finished a workshop with Ted Nuttall where we were to use 300 lb. hot pressed paper and only black and white photos. Readers might remember some previous blog posts about my attempts to paint with hot pressed paper....all failures. So one objective was to learn from Ted the process he uses to paint on that surface. I had trouble finding some B&W photos to use until I remembered I had several old yearbook photos of classmates (circa 1955) in my scrapbook. Shazaam! I had my source material! So I prepared two drawings in advance of the class so I could work on one while the other was drying. What a difference it made to "WAIT" until the surface was bone dry before applying another wash....no wetting the paper first ( the mistake I made in the previous attempts). Also, I used a Kolinsky instead of my usual synthetic brushes so that I would be less likely to agitate the surface. I feel both of these are off to a great start, but challenges are still ahead...especially with "Steve". His herring bone pattern on the jacket will be "interesting", to say the least. And who in this day and age would wear a coat and tie to yearbook photo shoot at age 11 or 12!" Susan" appears to be wearing a girl scout uniform. I will post the progress as I go forward....look for future postings! At some point, I may try to find these people and send them a copy.
